The mathematics and computer science<\/strong> master’s degree program combines mathematical reasoning with practical implementation in computer science. The goal is to address complex issues using modern methods from both disciplines and to develop well-founded solutions. Students sharpen their analytical skills, and are encouraged to find creative approaches to interdisciplinary problems. Graduates have a well-founded education in both mathematics and computer science\u2014a combination that is in high demand in science, the industry, and technology development. Mainz University is one of the few universities in Germany that combines both disciplines equally in one degree program. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The master\u2019s degree program focuses on fundamental and future-oriented issues<\/strong>. These include the development of mathematical models for predicting material properties, the optimization of memory accesses for greater efficiency, and the reconstruction of biological family trees using modern procedures of genome analysis. In addition, the analysis of random geometric systems plays an important role, as they can be used for the efficient design of communication systems, for example. The program’s combination of theoretical precision and practical application <\/strong>imparts skills that are of central importance for current and future challenges in many industries. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/jgu-base-section>\n\n\n

Building on the foundations acquired in the bachelor’s program in mathematics and computer science, the master\u2019s degree program further deepens and adds to your specialist knowledge. Students have the option of selecting sub-areas of mathematics and an area of specialization in computer science in order to acquire further specialist knowledge. The program of study includes lectures and main seminars that systematically introduce you to research topics, as well as special lectures that provide insights into current research questions. In this way, close links between sound theoretical training and practical research are established. The program concludes with the master’s thesis, which students complete in an area of specialization of their choice, teaching them how to conduct independent scientific work at a high level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three weeks before the beginning of the lecture period, we offer bridging courses in mathematics<\/a> to help all new students in the department refresh their school mathematics and to ease their transition from school to university. This is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the university and get to know fellow students who are also just starting their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Learning Workshop is a service offered by our faculty that builds on this idea: During the lecture period, students can work on the weekly exercises together and support each other. There are also tutors present on site who can offer advice and assistance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/jgu-base-section>\n\n\n
